The Daystar University Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee (DU-ISERC) is accredited by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) to conduct scientific and ethical review research protocols in Social, Environmental and Health Sciences.
All research involving human subjects or material from human subjects, whether dead or alive, or having components of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine learning (ML) will require approval by DU-ISERC before it commences.
The DU-ISERC reviews research and project proposals and their supporting documents, giving special attention to ALL aspects of ethical research process. This includes the scientific validity of the study, assessment of risks and benefits of the study, Informed consent, confidentiality, rights of participants, responsibility of the researcher to respondents, protection of the vulnerable populations and the community, conflict of interest and disclosure on funding as is appropriate.

Executes its mandate fairly and independent of any undue influence from political, institutional, professional and market forces.
Undertakes review of all ethical aspects of the proposed research before commencement of the study and provides an independent, competent and timely response as well as a regular evaluation of ongoing research.
Acts in the full interest of potential research participants and concerned communities, taking into account interests of researchers and having due regard to the requirements of relevant regulatory agencies and applicable laws.
Advocates, encourages and monitors "best practice" ethical standards in research, protecting subjects of research from unnecessary harm; preserve rights of the researcher and provides assurance where required, to the public where the research is being carried out.
Maintains a database of information pertaining to all research and projects proposals whose application has been made to the institution.
